OUTPUT RISE

OUTPUT RISE: South Africa's miningproduction increased by 0.2% year-on-year in May, with iron-ore, pictured, having made the largest positive contribution, with production increasing by 12.5% year-on-year. The result was mixed, however, with manganese ore output decreasing by 13% year-on-year and coal by 4.6%. Nevertheless, the overall increase was ahead of expectations, following April’s marked 7.7% year-on-year contraction. Photograph: Creamer Media
